My CitySocialising: Gayle, Liverpool

Category : CitySocialising HQ, My CitySocialising

Another new slot on the CitySocialising blog dedicated to our members, every month we’ll be bringing you stories from our own members mouths as they talk about the people they’ve met, the places they’ve been and tell us all about their Citysocialising. This month Liverpool CitySocialising member and host Gayle talks to us about the great friends she’s made.

At the age of 24, I found myself in a situation where all my friends were settling down and the ones that hadn’t, had gone home after university. I’m not from the city originally and I felt isolated. After another weekend sat in on my own, I decided enough was enough and I came across City Socialising.

I didn’t have any specific expectations, just the hope that it would help me get out of the rut I had found myself in. My first social was a trip on the Liverpool Wheel followed by some drinks on the docks. There was about 6 of us there and we had a good laugh! It was nice and relaxed and I instantly felt comfortable, afer all, they were there for the same reason as me – to meet new people! One of the girls I met at the social is now one of my very close friends!

My second social I actually hosted myself … I wanted to see a film at the cinema that none of my friends fancied so I created a social. It was a good laugh, a good film and yet again, one of the girls who came is now a very good friend of mine! More socials ensued and eventually, I got asked to be an official host. I now host two socials a month and add to that all the stuff I do outside of CS with all the people I’ve met, I have a pretty full social diary! I now find myself having to turn things down because there’s too many options! Last year, I went to London for my birthday to see a show that I had wanted to see for 6 years but had never had anyone to go with … out of the 5 girls that came with me, 4 I had met on CS … this year, a group of us are going to Barcelona, me and a couple others are doing an indoor skydive and this is all in addition to the fun and frolicks we ahve on CS Socials!

For new members, or people thinking of joining, I would encourage them not to be nervous! Everyone you meet at a social is there for the same reason as you and the added bonus is that you know you already have something in common as you have both been attracted by the theme of the social. Try and engage before the social, send a few messages, even if it is to say that it is your first social and you feel a little nervous, the more seasoned members will make you feel so welcome and your host is always on hand to introduce you to people they have previously met. It can be a daunting prospect, especially going to some of the bigger socials like the Mass Mingles, but once you’ve overcome that initial fear, you really will wonder what took you so long to join!
