Nationwide study reveals Brightonians’ top 10 new year’s resolutions for 2010

Category : Press releases

With 2010 underway, the latest findings from a nationwide study by CitySocialising, which polled over 4000 of its members across Brighton and other cities across the UK & Scotland about their new year’s resolutions, have revealed that 70% of people in Brighton will be making at least one new year’s resolution this January, 3% fewer than the UK average of 73%.

When Brightonians were asked what their new year’s resolutions for 2010 were going to be, ”finding true love” was at number one, a contrast to the rest of the UK where this resolution came an average fifth in place. Second most popular resolution in Brighton was to “enjoy life more” followed by “learning something new”.

Interestingly, the UK’s number two most popular resolution for 2010 of “losing weight” came only fifth on the list for Brightonians, in joint place with “paying off debts”, and the UK’s third most popular resolution to “get fit” came just seventh on the list of priorities for Brightonians.

When questioned about how long they expected to stick to their resolutions, the majority of those questioned in Brighton, 20%, only expected to last for 3 months, 19% between 2 weeks and month and 7% for less than a week.

Just 13% of those questioned in Brighton divulged that they usually kept their resolutions for at least year. Overall across the UK, although men (67%) were found less likely than women (77%) to actually make resolutions, they appeared to be better at sticking to them, with 20% claiming they kept their resolution for a year or more, compared to just 15% of women.

Sanchita Saha, CEO & founder of CitySocialising said:

“People in Brighton appear to be getting ready to take their love lives more seriously than rest of the UK this year, even more than their health and fitness which is a real contrast to the rest of the UK. But it’s great to see that this is almost on par with Brightonians’ resolve to just enjoy life more this year.”
