Facebook friends are virtual, says Oxford Uni… You’re kidding right ;)

Category : Regional updates

A great study from Oxford University came out last week that discovered something we here at CitySocialising have known for years… that “Facebook might give us the ability to have thousands of friends but it does nothing to expand how many we keep in real life” - this is because as humans we have a max capacity of maintaing 150 real life friendships/relationships – which still sounds like a LOT to me, especially if you’re a busy, working girl or guy.

Apparently, when looking at use of sites like Facebook, Bebo and MySpace, the study found that those with lots of ‘friends’ only interact with a relatively small proportion of them, and that even if people had say 1,500 friends, when you actually look at traffic on sites, they saw that “people maintain the same inner circle of around 150 people that we observe in the real world”

But surely there’s just not enough hours in the day or days in the weeks to socialise one on one and give even each of 150 friends the attention that they need? Or perhaps that’s just me!  The great thing about CitySocialising is that, because the Socials that our members, and our Editors, organise on our site are about going out together in groups, this actually IS an easy way to maintain up to 150 friendships at the same time.

So, if like me you’re falling short of 150 real world friends, make sure you get yourself along to some Socials quick smart :)

CitySocialising: winners of BT Essence of the Entrepreneur 2009

Category : CitySocialising HQ

We’re really pleased to announce that we are the one of the winners of the BT Business Essence of the Entrepreneur competition 2009. The competition looks to recognise and reward entrepreneurs who have been innovative, and successful, with the help of technology!

I, along with 19 other winners, had my portrait taken by celebrity photographer Rankin as part of the campaign which was a fantastically glamourous experience and a welcome break from the norm. I went to a great, swanky little party at the Oxo Tower the night before last where all 20 portraits were unveiled for the first time and Peter Jones was there to present the honours – he’s a very tall man. I wasnt sure about my portrait to start with as it spookily doesnt look like me, but kind of does, but not – but now I love it! Rankin truly is a genius photographer and a very nice man indeed!

Plus, meeting some of the other 19 entrepreneurs I felt pretty much in awe of all their amazing achievements. Makes me want to do better for CitySocialising and fired up for success!

London kicks off the CS parties in style!

Category : Regional updates

We had a fantastic night at the ‘Break your Resolutions’ party last night! Thanks to everyone who could make it despite the rain and still managed to locate us on the top floor of 1 Leicester Square. Many enjoyed the stylish VIP lounge of The Penthouse with an absolutely stunning view over London.

As usual, it was great to meet new people and catch up with familiar faces. Last night’s crowd really helped make it a fun and lively party – everyone was very friendly and warm, which is what CitySocialising is all about! And the three bottles of bubbly and chocolate cake helped get the party going (the chocolate cake being demolished in seconds :-)

See below for some party pics. If you took pictures of the party last night, feel free to post them up on the social.

Don’t forget our big Anti-Valentine’s Day Party on Saturday 13th February! With drinks, dancing, karaoke and a great crowd, it’s going to be a good one!

Have a great weekend

CS Glasgow

CS Glasgow 2010 had been off to a great start with a great variety of socials, including a walk a language swap, salsa class plus a dash of the ever popular laidback drink nights. We’ve welcome many new members and got some great feedback on what our members enjoy most. This Saturday we’ll be celebrating our succcessful month with a great ‘Break Your Resolutions’ socials and we hope to see you there!

If January all’s about resolutions, we all know what February is famous for Valentine’s Day. For many of us it’s a dreadful day to be out by oneself; for some reason the roses and cards are always for someone else, and you can’t have a decent meal out without the risk of gagging from the cheesy display of the couple sitting next to you.

This dilemma usually results in the spending the weekend in doors; but lads and ladies that was before CitySocialising  and now that we’re here we say no more! This February we’ve got some fantastic socials that would put a smile on your face and sprint in your step.

On the 13th we’ve got our fantastic ‘Anti Valentine’s Pub Crawl’ which would be our chance to misbehave like the free agents we are! We’ll be hitting the best bars and clubs in the Merchant City and Mary out host for the night is fantastic.

For those in the mood for a great meal out Sunday sees us heading out for some delicious Italian, however please note we could only reserve a few seats for this so make you grab your place!

Whether you’re single and lovin it or you’re part of a couple but hate the cheesy commercialisation that is Valentine ’s Day join us in making your weekend unforgettable … for all the reasons!
